ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Saqib Nisar took notice of an incident involving the rape of a 17-
year-old girl which was reportedly ‘ordered’ by a village council.
Authorities state that the CJP has asked Punjab’s Inspector General (IG) to submit a report regarding the incident
.
Police sources report that a Panchayat (council) was convened in which at least 40 men present after a man raped a 12-
year-old girl on July 16 while cutting grass in a field.
A few days later the council ordered the affected girl’s brother to rape the rapist’s 17-
year-old sister.
It was also reported that the 17-
year-old girl was reportedly
dragged to
the area where the meeting was being held, and raped in front of several men and in the presence of her parents
.
20 people have been detained in connection with this incident after the First Information Report (FIR) was registered at Muzaffarabad police station.
