ISLAMABAD: State media reported on Sunday that the federal government has budgeted over Rs 42 billion for motorway and highway projects for the first six months of the financial year.
The Planning Commission reported that over Rs 13 billion had been budgeted for use on the Abdul
Hakeem section of the Lahore-Karachi motorway which is an essential part of the China-Pakistan Economic C
orridor.
It added that six billion rupees
were to be used in constructing the Burhan-Halka-D I Khan motorway. In addition four billion rupees
were released for acquiring land and constructing the Sialkot-Lahore motorway, while Rs 2.8 billion
were to be used to improve the N-85 road going through the Hoshab, Nag, Basima and Surab areas.
In addition, another three billion rupees from the budget had been allocated for the Lowari Tunnel and its access roads.
The
responsibility for executing the projects falls to the National
Highways Authority.
